Limitations and notes

Read these before you quote LCD Dashboard or plan a wall tablet around it.

Home network only

The dashboard works on the home network only. There is no remote access, by design. A phone that leaves the house shows the dashboard again once it's back on the home Wi-Fi.

There's no sign-in. Anyone on the home network with a dashboard address can view it, including the installer view. The homeowner view hides the installer's tools but doesn't restrict access. The dashboard can't control anything, but it does show the state of the house, so keep guests on a separate guest network.

Devices from other drivers

The dashboard shows what the Crestron Home Web API reports: rooms, lights, shades, scenes, door and occupancy sensors, light sensors, door locks, security systems, thermostats and media rooms. Devices added by other drivers vary.

  • Locks from other drivers don't appear as locks. This includes LCD's own 2N Lock. The dashboard shows them through their Lock and Unlock scenes instead:

    • Locked when the lock scene is active;
    • Not confirmed locked otherwise, which covers both unlocked and not yet reported since the processor started.

Lock left unlocked doesn't apply to these locks.

  • Thermostats from other drivers can appear. A BACnet thermostat driver appeared normally in our tests.

  • Other device types from other drivers may be missing. Check the dashboard on site before you promise a device to the homeowner.

Security systems

The dashboard shows a security system's overall state, such as armed, disarmed or in alarm, when the system's driver reports it to Crestron Home. It doesn't show zones or areas, and it can't arm or disarm.

  • The state depends on the security system's driver. Some drivers don't report a state the Web API can read. The dashboard then can't show the system's state, and the Security alarm and Fire alarm alerts can't fire. The troubleshooter's Web API collections check says when this is the case.
  • The Security item in the summary shows the first security system reported.

History isn't in Crestron Home backups

Alert history, energy figures, temperature and occupancy history, and processor history are kept in the dashboard's own database on the processor. A Crestron Home configuration backup doesn't include it. Restoring a backup or replacing the processor starts the dashboard afresh.

Before a processor swap, download the Energy, Temperature and Occupancy CSVs and export the load table in Settings → Energy. You can import the load table on the new processor.

Energy figures are estimates

The Energy page multiplies each light's dimmer level by the watts you enter. It doesn't measure power. Accuracy depends on the watts, and on dimming being roughly linear. Loads without their own watts use a default of 20 W. Only lighting loads are counted.

After a Crestron Home configuration upload, some lights may get new ids. The dashboard suggests matches by room and name for you to confirm in Settings → Energy.

Alerts depend on polling

The Web API doesn't push changes, so the dashboard checks the house every few seconds. An alert can appear up to one poll after its threshold. Life-safety alarms belong to the security system and its monitoring service.

When the driver restarts, it restarts the timers too: a door already open counts its Door left open time from the restart.

Time sync

The Clock sync tile shows whether time sync is switched on. The processor doesn't report whether the last sync succeeded.

One dashboard per processor

Install one copy of the driver per processor. A second copy detects the first and stays idle. For different dashboards in different rooms, use saved dashboards, room filters and styles.

Anyone with the installer view can edit dashboards

Saved dashboards can be edited from the installer view, by anyone on the home network who has its address. Give homeowners and wall tablets homeowner-view links, which can't edit.

4-series processors only

LCD Dashboard needs a 4-series Crestron Home processor. 3-series processors aren't supported.
